Last updated: 14 October 2026. Applies to Isnad for iPhone and iPad, version 1.0.
The short version
Your reading data and location stay on your device. Isnad has no account, analytics, advertising or tracking SDK. The developer runs no server for app data. Recitation audio comes directly from a third-party service, which receives the requests described below.
The app uses the network for recitation audio, only when you ask for it. The Qurʾān, the translations, the hadith, the guides, the prayer times and the direction of the qibla are either inside the app already or worked out on your device.
Turn off Settings → Recitation → Stream recitation to stop audio requests. Opening an external source or license link uses your browser and the selected website’s policy.
Recitation audio — the one thing the app requests
Isnad bundles no audio. When you press play, each verse is fetched as you reach it from cdn.islamic.network — Islamic Network, the audio service behind alquran.cloud.
- What the request contains: the address of the file, which names the reciter and the verse number. Nothing else comes from the app: no identifier, no account, no advertising ID, and nothing about you or what else you have read.
- What the service can see: as with any request on the internet, its servers see the IP address the request came from, and which verses were asked for. What Islamic Network does with its own server logs is governed by its terms (https://alquran.cloud/terms-and-conditions), not by this document. The developer of Isnad never sees those requests and has no access to those logs. The developer has not independently verified the provider’s logging, retention or use of these requests.
- What is kept: the audio is played as it arrives and is not saved by the app.
- How to stop it: the Stream recitation switch above. With it off you can still follow a recitation's word-by-word timing silently, which uses no network.
The release audio player uses only the Islamic Network CDN. External source links open the selected website; they are optional and do not replace the bundled source records.
Location — used on your device, never sent
Prayer times and the qibla depend on where you are. Isnad works both out on the device, from the position of the sun and the bearing to the Kaʿbah; no server is asked.
- You do not have to share a location. "Choose a city" picks from a list built into the app and needs no permission.
- If you do share it, permission is requested when you tap "Use my location" or "Enable live compass", and only while using the app. A prayer-time fix is requested once. The visible, authorized live compass uses coarse location updates to let iOS correct magnetic north to true north. Those live fixes do not replace the saved prayer city and are not stored. Updates stop when the screen is covered, left or backgrounded.
- It is rounded to two decimal places — about a kilometre — before it is stored, which is more precision than a prayer time needs.
- It stays on the device, in the app's local preferences. It is not transmitted, and it is not sent to a geocoding service to be turned into a place name.
- To remove it: Prayer times → Location and calculation → Remove this place, or delete the app.
What is stored on your device, and only on your device
| What | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your settings — translation, display mode, typeface, text sizes, theme, reciter, the streaming switch | Local preferences | So the app opens the way you left it |
| Your bookmarks | Local saved data | So they are there next time |
| Your reading position | Local saved data | So Continue reading works |
| Your recent searches | Local saved data | So the search field can offer them back |
| The place prayer times are worked out for, rounded, and how you want them calculated | Local saved data | So you set it once |
| Your tasbīḥ count | Local saved data | So a count survives leaving the screen |
| Error reports you have written but not yet sent | Local draft | So a report survives the app being closed |
None of it is readable by any other app, and none of it is backed up to any server operated by the developer, because there is no such server. It is included in your own iCloud or Finder device backup exactly like any other app's data, under your Apple account, governed by Apple's terms rather than anyone else's.
Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Report an error, and the share sheet
Isnad can be wrong, and it asks you to tell it so. The "Report an error" sheet composes a plain-text report — the passage, the locator, what you say is wrong, and optionally an email address if you want to be told what happened to it.
That report is not transmitted by the app. It is handed to your own iOS share sheet or copied to your clipboard, and you choose where it goes: your mail app, Messages, notes, nowhere. If you send it by mail, the developer receives it as ordinary email, sees whatever you chose to include, and uses it only to check and correct the passage.
The optional email field exists so a correction can be answered. Leave it blank and the report contains no reply address. If you send it by email, your mail service includes the sender information it normally uses.
The same is true of every other Share and Copy button in the app: what is shared is the text shown on screen, going where you send it.
Children
Isnad has no user-generated content, no messaging, no accounts, no purchases. Optional source and license links open external websites. Isnad is not marketed as a Kids Category app. The streaming and external-site disclosures above apply to users of all ages.
Changes
- 14 October 2026. Clarified live-compass location updates, external source links, and audio-provider server logs. Added in-app Privacy and Content & licenses screens.
- 5 October 2026. Two things were added, and this document changed in the same pass as the code, as the previous version said it would. Recitation is now streamed (see "Recitation audio"); until this date the app contained no networking code at all. Prayer times and the qibla were added, with an optional on-device location (see "Location"). Nothing else changed: there is still no account, no analytics and no server.
If a future version changes what leaves your device, this policy will be updated to explain the change.
